What You Need To Know CURRENT LAWS REMAIN IN FORCE AND SHOULD BE OBEYED. CURRENT STATUS OF CANNABIS LAWS Consumption of recreational cannabis is prohibited/illegal in any form (smoking, vaping, topicals, or edibles) in the Cayman Islands. Lawmakers in the cayman islands amended the misuse of drugs law to allow for the medicinal use of cannabis oil. MEDICINAL USE/CBD OIL The use of cannabis extracts and traces of cannabis (such as CBD oil) for medical or therapeutic purposes, must be prescribed by a medical doctor licensed in the Cayman Islands in accordance with the Health Practice Law. The prescription must be part of a course of treatment for a person under that medical doctor’s care. AVAILABILITY Cannabis oil is only available by prescription at pharmacies that are regulated in the Cayman Islands. Selling or buying illicit cannabis or cannabis oil is illegal. TRAVELLING WITH CANNABIS It is illegal to import or export cannabis in any form across the Cayman border. This applies to all countries, whether it Is legal there or not. Cannabis-based treatments are approved for use only in the Cayman Islands. However, medicinal cannabis cannot legally cross international borders. For example, patients cannot carry medical cannabis into other countries, even with a prescription. CANNABIS POSSESSION, SALE AND USE IS STILL ILLEGAL.
